Safe and Sustainable Work Environment
At Kreative Decks, we are passionate about building a sustainable work environment. Protecting the environment is at the heart of what we do, ensuring that the teak decks we create are all built from sustainable teak forests or teak alternatives. We prioritise maintaining a sustainable culture and in our Kreative School, we instil these values into our team.

When it comes to delivering high-quality deck flooring solutions and ensuring all yacht deck repairs are completed efficiently, safety is paramount. The tools we use can be dangerous and we guarantee that in our in-house program, we include detailed instructions on the proper use of saws – a crucial tool in deck carpentry.
This training video emphasises the importance of safety when using the format saw, a tool we use to make precise cuts in various materials. The saw features an adjustable, large circular blade with an incisor that helps to prevent chipping and splinters. Our training explains every critical aspect of how to operate the format saw safely.
Format Saw Safety
- Final checks before use – before you use the saw you must ensure that it is stable, your work area is clear and you have familiarised yourself with all the saw’s safety features such as blade guards and emergency stops.
- Uniform – do not wear any loose clothing, accessories or jewellery that could potentially get caught in the blade.
- Maintenance – double check the saw is sharp, correctly installed and suitable for the teak wood you are working with.
- Adjustments – set the height and angle that you require to ensure the cut is accurate. Adjust the saw guides to your desired dimensions.
- Dust – the machine will be set up with its a suction system. Make sure this has been done correctly so that it will collect all dust and debris.
- Test – before cutting your chosen material, find a scrap piece of wood to test the saw on, making sure that all the angles and dimensions you have set are correct. If not adjust and test again.
- The Cut – when you are ready, push your teak wood through the blade in a controlled manner. Use appropriate safety devices to guide the material and maintain constant pressure.
- Switch off – once you have finished using the saw, turn it off and wait until the blade has come to a complete stop before removing your material. This is imperative as you want to avoid any last-minute accidents.
