Behind Kreative Decks is more than two decades of yacht decking experience shaped by a lifelong connection to sailing and craftsmanship.
CEO Frank Ravez founded his first company in 2001 in Saint-Mandrier in the South of France. Although his professional background began in business rather than woodworking, boating had always been a major part of his life. As a child, his parents spent several years circumnavigating the world on a sailing boat, giving Frank an early connection to the marine environment that would later influence his career.
After attending business school in France and completing an MBA at an American university, Frank chose to combine his business knowledge with his passion for sailing, teak, and woodworking. That decision ultimately led him into the yacht decking industry.

Building Kreative Decks Around Quality
When discussing the mission behind Kreative Decks, Frank explained that the company focuses on being the best possible yacht decking partner in the South of France. For him, quality means far more than technical workmanship alone. It also includes respecting customers, maintaining cleanliness onboard, delivering projects on time, and ensuring the right people are involved throughout the process.
This wider approach to quality continues to shape the way the company operates today.
Frank also highlighted the importance of building the right team. In the early years, the business depended heavily on him personally managing every aspect of the work. Over time, however, he succeeded in building a structured team capable of maintaining the same standards and values independently.
He described this as one of the achievements he is most proud of, explaining that the company has grown into something that no longer depends entirely on one individual.
Watching the Yacht Industry Evolve
Having worked in yacht decking since 2001, Frank has witnessed significant changes across the superyacht industry. One of the biggest developments has been the increasing size of yachts. When he first entered the industry, a 50-metre yacht was considered very large. Today, much larger vessels have become increasingly common.
He also explained that the industry itself has become more professionalised over time. In the early days, many people working within yachting were driven primarily by passion and hands-on experience. Today, projects often involve more technical management and engineering expertise.
Frank believes this evolution will likely continue as yachts become larger and more technically advanced.

A Passion for Sustainable Thinking
Sustainability is an important subject for Frank, particularly when it comes to teak decking. Rather than replacing decks unnecessarily, Kreative Decks strongly focuses on maintenance, repairs, and recaulking whenever possible. Frank explained that he believes in fixing things rather than replacing them, a mindset that comes from growing up in a time when products were repaired and maintained instead of discarded. For yacht decking, this means extending the lifespan of existing teak wherever possible through proper maintenance and recaulking rather than immediately opting for full replacement.
He also noted that full deck replacements create considerably more waste and environmental impact due to the removal of existing materials, disposal of contaminated teak, and additional preparation processes required before installing a new deck. Because of this, Kreative Decks encourages regular maintenance and periodic caulking to help preserve teak decks for as long as possible.
Growing From Craftsman to Company Leader
Frank originally worked directly alongside his team, carrying out yacht decking installations, deck removal, and recaulking work himself. As the company expanded, his role gradually shifted towards leadership, organisation, and company structure. Although the day-to-day responsibilities have changed, he explained that he still enjoys both the practical and management sides of the business.
Today Kreative Decks continues to build its reputation around quality workmanship, experienced teams, and a long-term approach to yacht decking.
For Frank, maintaining those values remains central to the company’s identity and future.
