Duchess Anne’s New Deck
Since the Duchess Anne returned to Dunkerque, Kreative Decks has been hard at work, carefully executing the next phase of her restoration. Once the tenting was completed and the gale had subsided, the team turned their attention to the intricate details of her redecking.
The ship had already been stripped down, with most of her deck equipment removed and stored for safekeeping. Without her wooden planks and steel fittings, she appeared bare – a rare sight for a ship of her stature. Now, with careful planning and expert craftsmanship, she is being rebuilt with durable FSC-certified Iroko, a hardwood chosen for its strength and resilience. Kiln-dried for months, this timber has been carefully prepared to withstand the marine environment and ensure the ship’s longevity.
Beyond the deck itself, Kreative Decks is also responsible for restoring the steel fittings and wheelhouse, key elements that define the Duchess Anne’s historic character. The steel components have been removed, treated, and repainted in the workshop before being reinstalled, ensuring they are both functional and true to the ship’s original design.
